De komende weken staat dit blog in het teken van digitale didactiek.  Vandaag deel 2:  Samenwerkend leren ! In de tweede proeverij op de werkconferentie digitale didactiek van Leerling2020 (bij Sander van Acht van Flooow ) ervaren we als lijdend voorwerp diverse digitale tools waarmee samenwerkend leren bevorderd kan worden. Een paar hiervan kende ik al, maar het was leuk om het eens zelf te beleven als deelnemer: daarmee doe je toch weer nieuwe inspiratie op voor gebruik. Andere besproken tools waren helemaal nieuw voor me! Sander begon met het nog eens herhalen van de principes van samenwerkend leren. Het is altijd goed om dat nog even op te halen! Ik maakte met Canva heel makkelijk een infographic (klik voor vergroting). Quizlet Daarna liet hij ons drie tools ervaren. De eerste daarvan kende ik al:  Quizlet . Quizlet is gratis, maar met een betaald docentenaccount heb je meer inzicht in wat je leerlingen doen. Dit kost 2,92 per maand (of 27,99 per jaar). I...

Digitale didactiek is hot en hartstikke gangbaar. Zelfs de meest digibete docent weet tegenwoordig (eventueel met hulp) wel een Kahoot aan te slingeren als er op vrijdag het achtste uur geen enkele levensvreugde meer in de ogen van de leerlingen te bekennen is. Er is ook gewoon ontzettend veel leuks te vinden online waarmee je je lessen interactiever en actiever kunt maken. Het is echter wel de kunst om tools niet alleen te gebruiken omdat het kan, maar daarbij doelgericht en didactisch te werken. Wat willen we met de inzet van ICT eigenlijk bereiken met onze leerlingen? Ik weet uit mijn eigen tijd als leerling nog wel hoe vrolijk het geluid van de videokar over de gang ons stemde. Even niet werken maar "gewoon" lekker tv kijken. Ik wil niet zeggen dat ik er niks van leerde (Derrick kijken met ducttape over de ondertiteling geplakt was best een uitdaging), maar het was wel een uitgelezen kans om eens even lekker achterover te gaan zitten consumeren in plaats van actief t...

Professionaliseren: niet iedere docent wordt er enthousiast van. Ik heb zelf ook lang een haat-liefde verhouding gehad met het begrip professionalisering zoals daar doorgaans op scholen invulling aan wordt gegeven en ook met de zelfreflectie die daar onvermijdelijk bij komt kijken. Als beginnend docent is het heel belangrijk om te reflecteren, hoewel tegelijkertijd heel erg moeilijk en confronterend. Tegenwoordig is professionalisering juist een van die dingen die mijn werk alleen maar interessanter en leuker maken! Hoe kwam die omslag tot stand?   Misschien ben ik wel simpelweg een freak of nature, maar ik denk dat het voor een groot deel afhangt van de manier waarop je het begrip professionalisering invulling geeft. Verplichte studiemiddagen op school zijn nog steeds niet mijn hobby, hoewel ik ook in die context altijd probeer positief te blijven en er het meeste uit te halen voor mezelf (je zit daar toch, niet?).  Maar wat ik liever en ook steeds meer doe, is zelf zoeken ...

In 2016 blogde ik op deze plek over mijn ervaringen met een Massive Open Online Content Course over eTwinning. Deze posts staan nog online, omdat ik misschien nog wel eens verder wil met het uitwerken van dit samenwerkingsproject. Ik heb om diverse redenen de MOOC echter nooit afgerond. En nu? Ik ben tussen toen en nu nooit gestopt met het onderzoeken van mijn praktijk en het vernieuwen en verbeteren van mijn onderwijs. Daarom een nieuwe start: de site in het Nederlands, een frisse lay-out en nieuwe posts in aantocht. Op dit blog zal ik voortaan verslag doen van interessante onderwijsboeken die ik lees, artikelen die me raken en van workshops die ik volg of conferenties die ik bezoek. Als verdere verwerking en verdieping voor mijzelf, maar ook als inspiratie voor anderen. Stay tuned!

While browsing the eTwinning projects and related ICT tools I felt a little overwhelmed. There are so many tools and they all look great, so for now it feels like I am collecting ideas at a really high speed without a practical idea of how to use them. I will talk about the tools more in upcoming posts, after I have had some time to try them out ans assess their usefulness. The projects I saw were also interesting, but many of them were very impractical for my teaching situation. I am a secondary school teacher and my subject is English - doing a project together with other subjects such as geography or the sciences is not yet possible in our school situation, so I need to make or find a project that focuses mostly on language skills and also, very importantly, will help my students along to reach their goals for this year - it can't just be fun to do! I am unstoppable. Or crazy. Or a bit of both, I guess... Today I joined another MOOC, on Futurelearn, from the British Film Institute and Into Film. It's on how to use film to improve literacy in the English classroom. You can find it here:  https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/teaching-literacy-through-film I'm excited about how this course will provide tools for me to use in the classroom. I've always used film with assignments to motivate my pupils more and to create enjoyable lessons, but this course brings theory and practice together. In week 2 of the Open eTwinning MOOC we were challenged to analyse our own teaching practice. What would we like to improve? What new things do we want to try? What is not going well? The brainstorming was collected on this padlet board: Created with Padlet My addition was: 1. What can I improve? I would like to make my lessons more engaging and be able to let go of the set textbooks more often and use my own material instead or as supplement. I would like to use more collaborative learning and more learner autonomy. 2. What would I like to try? I would like to try to design and participate in an etwinning project, focusing on oral fluency and intercultural competency.  3. What am I not happy with? This week I joined a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) about eTwinning. In this course we will collaborate with teachers from all over Europe and the rest of the world to get to know the eTwinning platform, and design projects as well as get to know ICT tools to use in eTwinning. I'm really excited to have joined such an international community of teachers, and I'm looking forward to engaging with them on my blog as well as on Twitter (#twinmooc) and Facebook!
